Food for Needy Families in Samaria:
You’re never hungry. Don’t even know what it feels like. But there are people who are hungry, Every day, All day. And the only thing worse than being hungry, is knowing your children are hungry - having them crying to you for something to fill their empty bellies. And the only thing worse than that, is when your children stop begging you for food, because they know already that you have nothing to give them.
There are over 100,000 Jews living in Samaria, spread out over 30 small communities and several larger towns, covering a large area in the heart of Israel. Even though the Israeli economy is stronger than in the past, some people are still reeling from the blow of too many instances of terror in recent years and difficult budget cutbacks implemented by the Israeli government. Many families find themselves in a precarious financial situation due to unemployment. The situation is so dire that some do not know where their next meal will come from. In some cases the main breadwinner is out of work or disabled; in others, an illness has forced the family to spend its last shekel on medical bills.
The Samaria Family Assistance Program works with the social service departments in several Samaria municipalities to provide food packages and other basic necessities for dozens of needy families. The program relies on private contributions, mostly from local Israeli individuals and businesses, and this assistance is a blessing. But even so, the shortfalls are formidable and the social workers are often unable to respond to all the requests for assistance. As the economic situation worsens, the need has become more acute and the program receives calls of help from more families than it is able to assist. The waiting list is growing and CFOIC Heartland is being asked to continue to assist the program by contributing toward packages for as many families as possible.
Your contribution to this worthy project will supply the most basic support and help to families in a time of need. You will be contributing to the well being of parents and children in a time of darkness and suffering, when they have no one else to turn to. No child in this day and age should be hungry. Let’s help stop this plague, even one child at a time.
