Lunch Program in Kochav Yaakov
No child should go hungry. No child should feel hollowness in his stomach and heart, waiting for the emptiness to be filled.
These are difficult financial times and many parents are unemployed. There are scores of families in need of specialized assistance. In some families both parents work long hours and only return home late in the evening. These children need a structured framework in the afternoon, after school hours.
The parents of Kochav Yaakov have established an after-school program that provides a framework for children who need to receive a hot meal and help with their schoolwork.
In the morning these children leave their homes with only a sandwich and a fruit to get them through the entire day. They need a hot, healthy, nourishing midday meal to give them the energy they need to continue learning and playing throughout the day. CFOIC has been asked to help sponsor a hot meal a day for twenty children.
“‘I was hungry and you gave me something to eat . . . I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.’” Matthew 25:34-40

Kochav Yaakov: literally meaning the “Star of Jacob,” was founded in 1984 by one committed family that lived alone for months in a tent in order to lay physical claim to the land. In 1990, permanent building began. Today, there are over 400 families in Kochav Yaakov. Kochav Yaakov protects the northern approaches to Jerusalem and from its hilltops one enjoys a clear view of the Jerusalem skyline. There are over 800 children in Kochav Yaakov.
