HELP ME FIND A CURE!!!

I am participating in 2 Triathlons this year to raise money for Von Hippel Lindau (VHL)! VHL is a genetic disease that causes tumors in the kidneys, eyes, ears, pancreas, adrenal gland, spine and brain, and has an incidence rate of one in every 36,000 births. My story begins with losing my mother to kidney cancer in 2000- it was unknown that she had VHL. Then my sister was diagnosed last year with ear, spine and brain tumors. I was diagnosed around the same time during an ultrasound for a pregnancy when they discovered cancerous kidney tumors. I had surgery on Valentines Day of 2008. While I am not free of tumors now, I am doing well and things are stable.

If my mother had known she had VHL, her cancer would have been treatable. If my sister had known, she would not have lost her inner ear. Diagnosis must be improved, and better treatment found. I want there to be a better future for my family and friends that have this, so let's all contribute to make this happen sooner than later!! I am so thankful to be in the state of health to do an event like this and look forward to finishing with my goal of $5,000!!
