Hello,
Huntington's Disease (HD) is a devastating, hereditary, degenerative brain disorder, for which there is no cure. This disease affects the individual's ability to walk, think, reason and talk. Eventually the affected individual will become entirely reliant on other people for their care.
With sadness, I inform you that my dear friend of twenty-five years Nancy has been diagnosed with HD. On top of what Nancy experiences personally with HD, Nancy's journey includes watching her mother and brother suffer and then die from HD. Currently, Nancy visits and is supportive to her sister, who resides in a nursing home in Lowell because she, too, has HD.
One might think with the deep and frequent loss that Nancy has endured, she would be angry and weak. I can honestly say that she is one of the kindest, strongest and most hopeful person I have ever met. She is a loving mother of eight year old Grace and a true friend.
On September 15th, at Heritage State Park in Lowell, I will be participating in a three mile walk to raise money to help find a cure to end HD. Nancy will walk alongside her many friends and family and continue to inspire us all. If you are able to donate please click on the DONATE tab and help end this disease.
Thank you,
Kim
