Centreville Elementary School Eagles Soar High to Help Children and Families Afflicted with Autism
Autism is the fastest growing neurological disorder now affecting 1 in 100 children. With the early education and intervention, children with autism can greatly improve and even become indistinguishable from peers. A program of the Autism Society of America-Northern Virginia Chapter, Walk for Autism-Virginia provides grants to families in the Northern Virginia area to pay for autism therapies, most of which are not covered by health insurance. Due to the extensive costs of these therapies, many families go without the necessary treatment.
Great American Restaurants is proud to present the 5th Annual Walk for Autism-Virginia. The walk will be held on October 10, 2009 at the Prince William County Fairgrounds in Manassas, Virginia. This year there will be activities for the whole family including moon bounces, face painting, a puppet show, children’s train, petting zoo, air brush tattoos, live DJ, professional photography, a community resource fair and silent auction. Tasty food will be provided by Chick-fil-a, Papa John’s pizza, Z Pizza, TGIF, Starbucks Coffee, gluten/casein free snacks and many other food treats. Several prominent community leaders will discuss the importance of early intervention as well as the current proposed legislation to require coverage for autism related therapies.
We are calling on all family, friends and neighbors to join The Centreville Elementary School Walk Team to support children afflicted with autism in Northern Virginia. Join us to walk and experience the fun activities by registering online at www.walkforautismva.org. Every registered walker by October 1st receives a FREE Walk for Autism-Virginia T-shirt! When you register, choose the “Team” tab listed under Participant Information. Type “Centreville Elementary School” as your Team Name and “Eagles” as your Team Captain. Registration on October 10th begins at 9 a.m.
Along with the 5K Walk, there will also be a 5K Run. First and second place runners will receive trophies. There will be several run categories from ages 10 – 59. Registration for runners cost $20 before the event, and $25 at the door.
