National Mental Health Association
The Great American Freebie Challenge - following in the footsteps of the Great Euro Freebie Challenge - is the challenge to reach every State Capital on mainland USA - That's 48 states - WITHOUT ANY MONEY IN MY POCKET, relying solely on the kindness of our great friends across the pond in America.
Just like on the Euro Challenge, I will put myself through the hardships of going without food, water and sometimes anywhere warm to sleep. And you will all be able to follow the adventures, as I hitch hike my way around the massive country, on the official website. And for the privilege of being able to read the story from the comfort of your own homes, while I literally put my body on the line, all I ask is that you make a donation of whatever you can afford, which FirstGiving will send straight into the coffers of The National Mental Health Association of America.
To get a rough idea of how I will be able to complete such a challenge, check out the story of how I survived the Great Euro Freebie Challenge. Fifteen per cent of all moneys generated from the book will be donated to Cancer Research UK.
Whilst on that European challenge I came into contact with no end of kind, wonderful Americans who helped me out along the way and also provided friendship. Now I wish to meet many more, but this time in their own back yard. Through the media following (and my own personal website) in England, I hope to bring to life the stories of the characters I meet a long the way, and to show people back home that the Americans are still our biggest friends.
The Great American Freebie Challenge is dedicated to Kevin Mole, my dad, who sadly took his own life in September 2009. That is why I have chosen The National Mental Health Association as my designated charity stateside for this event. Hopefully, with our help, they can prevent the same fate happening to others. Meanwhile in the UK I will be collecting donations for our own mental health charity, Mind, through my JustGiving site.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
