Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment, Inc.

Thank you for your interest in Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment, Inc.

Each year, SAFE provides more than 5,000 survivors of domestic violence emergency services, including temporary shelter, safety planning, food aid, legal information, and court accompaniment.

You can help SAFE meet the needs of families as they struggle to escape domestic violence.  SAFE annually provides hundreds of families with emergency shelter, and provides hundreds of additional lock changes to keep many other families secure in their own homes. SAFE’s services are provided 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

SAFE Advocates assist clients from the first minutes and hours after an abusive incident through every step of the legal process, providing valuable information on how to file for protection orders, divorce, and child custody. SAFE advocates also provide survivors with critical emotional support, safety planning, and connections to local resources for housing and other basic needs.

SAFE provides additional attention for those survivors who most need assistance, through a Lethality Assessment and collaboration with the police and city agencies, to ensure that SAFE’s resources and the resources of other agencies are immediately available to victims at the highest risk. SAFE has also continued to increase its services in Spanish, providing Spanish-speaking survivors with the full range of SAFE’s services.

I would like to invite you to join us in our mission of empowering survivors of domestic violence. Even the smallest amount can make a monumental difference in the lives of our clients.

• $500 provides a victim and her children with one week of emergency shelter.
• $350 supports provision of an Emergency Temporary Protection Order and an immediate lock change, even when the court is closed.
• $200 allows us to provide immediate, in-person emergency response for one family outside of normal business hours.
• $116 funds Court advocacy and accompaniment for one client.
• $50 purchases food for the weekend for a client and two children.
• $20 provides transportation to a client who cannot afford Metro fare to and from Court.

We work hard to make sure the money we raise helps our clients. We keep our budget as tight as possible, but we can only be available 24/7 to help our clients and their families when we’ve paid our phone and electric bills. So, while up to 13% of donations may help pay such expenses, please keep in mind that paying those bills keeps our doors open, so 100% of your gift truly does support the services we provide to our clients.

When you give online your money goes directly into our bank account, benefitting our mission, and our clients, while a small percentage covers the cost of allowing us to use this Better Business Bureau-approved tool that guarantees secure technology for processing your gift.

SAFE, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Federal Tax ID #41-2226446), and all donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

Please visit www.dcsafe.org to learn more about SAFE’s services for domestic violence survivors and their families, or to make an online donation. More information is also available via telephone: 202-408-1476 or email: info@dcsafe.org.

Thank you very much for your support! Please forward this to anyone you think might also be interested in supporting SAFE.
