Once again, my family is holding the annual Pancakes for Pancreatic Cancer fundraising event. Our event is held in memory of my dad, Ron Gutmann who passed away from pancreatic cancer in August 2002. The event is in Fort Wayne, IN on November 12, 2011 at VFW Post 857 starting at 8:00am and ending around 11:00am. Along with the breakfast, there will be a bake sale, silent auction and raffle. Plenty for kids and adults alike!
We set up this page as a way to make a donation if you cannot attend or if you would like to make a donation online.
My dad was a great man, wonderful son, husband and father. He would of been a wonderful grandfather but, died before he got to meet any of his grandkids. They really missed out on meeting a good man. He was a self-employed contractor and earned the respect of those he worked for. He did not smoke or drink. He was healthy except for the cancer. He is GREATLY missed.
Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancr deeath in the US, yet it is the most under-funded, under-recognized and least-studied of the leading cancer killers. Currently only 2% of the National Cancer Institutes funding is allocated to pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality among leading cancer killers with a 5year survival rate of just 6%.
Pancreatic cancer has claimed the lives of many public figures, including actor Patrick Swayze, Carnegie Mellon University Professor Dr. Randy Pausch, actor Michael Landon, opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti, famed journalist Dith Pran, Hall of Fame NBA coach Chuck Daly, Indiana State Senator David Ford, and NFL Players Association President Gene Upshaw.
ALL proceeds from our event will go directly to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Please visit their website for more information: www.pancan.org.
