The 2012 Police Unity Tour will be the 7th I have participated in. Through the years, I have become more and more involved in this important organization. I didn't think it was possible for my level of dedication to increase.

On December 20th, 2011 my friend and former co-worker, Tim Schock, died during dive training in Chesapeake, Virginia. Tim was an amazing guy, and truly a person everyone liked. He was a kind, funny, wonderful guy who would do anything for you. I feel honored to have known him, and I am humbled to say that this year I will be participating in the tour in his honor. Rest In peace, Tim. You will be missed here on earth, and never forgotten.

In May 1997, the Police Unity Tour was organized in an effort to bring about public awareness of law enforcement officers that have died in the line of duty, to honor their sacrifices and offer a powerful place of healing for survivors by supporting the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Fund. The premier fund-raising event of the Police Unity Tour, a 250-mile bicycle ride, takes place each May 10-12. Chapter VIII rides from Portsmouth Virginia to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial via the Tidewater Trail Route. Each May 12, over 1,000 bicyclists and 300 support members converge at the Memorial in an emotional, yet spectacular arrival ceremony witnessed by thousands.

Since 1997, the Police Unity Tour has raised almost $10 million for the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Fund. This noble Memorial and the Mission of the Police Unity Tour would not be possible without the hundreds of contributions made by individuals and businesses that so generously support law enforcement officers in their communities.
