Walkin' Like There's No Tomorrow
Before 1999, HIV/AIDS had never really entered my world. I had heard a few references, a few (what I now realize are derogatory and discriminatory) jokes, and a few whispered conversations among adults. I had no idea what HIV/AIDS really was, how it affected people, or why it mattered. I certainly didn't realize what an impact it would have on my life.
Then I became a peer educator in high school and college, and found my niche helping others gain the knowledge and skills necessary to keep themselves safe from HIV infection. I realized prevention was the key to stopping this epidemic, and that I could make a difference.
Now I'm working for ARI, a great organization that provides support and resources for people living with HIV. I'm a Prevention Specialist, which means I talk to people about how to stay HIV-negative. I love my (very new) job, and all the people that are part of ARI.
The AIDS Walk provides funds for ARI to continue its mission of education and support relating to HIV. It also reminds us to remember those who have died, care for those who are living, and look forward to a cure.
Please donate to the AIDS Walk. Thank you for your support.
Much love,
Kristen
