Dear family, friends, & colleagues,
It's that time of the year again-- I'm asking for your support in the work that I do. Last year, you helped me raise $1,100.00 for my organization, which is doing powerful and positive work in the field of education across the United States.
With your help, I plan on raising even more this year! Let me share with you about some of the work we've been doing this year at my school.Citizen Schools works to extend the learning day for students in low-income communities. What does extending the learning day look like at my school?
It looks like hands-on, out-of-the-box learning in a robotics apprenticeship. We're pretty sure Alyssa is going to be an engineer!
It looks like students visiting San Jose State University and Stanford-- cultivating dreams, and better than that, plans to attend college. 8th graders Alex and Chad plan to be on the college track in high school and attend UC Santa Cruz.
It looks like students having the opportunity to practice the skills they've learned during the traditional school day and receive academic coaching in areas where they're struggling.
It looks like students doing community service work and learning about teamwork and leadership. My Civic Engagement apprentices created a Public Service Announcement about getting involved in the community and showed it to their whole school.
These are just some examples of the work we do with our students. I know we are making a positive impact on the lives of the young people in our program, whom I care deeply about. Please support our high-quality program by contributing what you're able to. $5 or $10 goes a long way and makes you an ally to this important work.
If you have a moment, please check out our Second Shift Blog. The links below take you to posts I've written about some of the work we've done with the students this year.
