Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts for the TCADP Race to Heal Initiative.

As most of you know, I have been involved in efforts to end the death penalty for more than 12 years, first as a college student and volunteer and now as a professional advocate and leader in the movement.   My opposition to the death penalty has been based primarily on my belief that a government does not have the right to kill its citizens. 

Over the last year, my thinking on this issue has become more focused on the widespread and irreparable harm that the death penalty inflicts on society as a whole.  I also have come to understand on a much deeper level why the death penalty does not meet the needs of crime victims and homicide survivors. 

Earlier this year, the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, of which TCADP is an affiliate, launched Rachel’s Fund.  This national campaign recognizes the continuing need to broaden the base of support for abolition and break the cycle of violence in our society.  Rachel’s Fund is named for, and inspired by, the life and work of the late abolitionist and activist Rachel King and by thousands of families of murder victims.  

TCADP is piloting the Race to Heal Initiative, an online fundraising drive that is part of Rachel’s Fund. Donations generated by the Race to Heal Initiative will support our efforts to build bridges to communities that have been impacted by violence and, in particular, to reach out to murder victim family members. This fall, TCADP partner Murder Victims’ Families for Reconciliation (MVFR) will bring on board an organizer who will be based in Texas.  He/she will work closely with TCADP to recruit, train and mobilize victim family members to be effective voices for abolition in Texas.  This represents a phenomenal opportunity to advance our work in this arena.
