On April 9th, 2010 Bloomington High School South Dance Marathon will be hosting our sixth annual dance marathon. South’s Dance Marathon operates through Indiana University Dance Marathon, which has just completed their 20thth marathon and earned a record breaking $1.6 million this fall. All money earned goes towards the RyanWhiteInfectiousDiseaseCenter at RileyHospital for Children in Indianapolis, Ind.
Bloomington South Dance Marathon (BSDM) is a six-hour event that consists of dancing, eating, playing games, and listening to Riley patients’ heartwarming stories. Our organization raises money through pledges from family and friends, donations from local businesses, and a variety of other fundraising activities. Corporate donations help cover cost of hosting the marathon allowing the majority of money earned to directly benefit the children at Riley.
Bloomington South’s Dance Marathon is one of the largest groups at South with over 200 members contributing to planning and nearly 500 dancing! The marathon is also the largest fundraiser the school hosts, earning over $52,000 this past year. As we have learned from our IU partners, BSDM is all For the Kids, and we stand for six hours to show our support for those kids who can’t stand on their own.
This year I will be participating in the marathon as a steering member. I have been involved in dance marathon for two years (this being my third) and have gone to all of our marathons. I am on the fundraising group, which is in charge of raising money for Riley; we raise money both in our school and out in the community. My specific job is fundraising chair and there I am specifically involved in helping raised money through the community. My favorite part of dance marathon is raising money throughout the year and seeing everyone’s’ faces as we come closer to raising money for the wonderful hospital. Also, I love going to the marathon and hearing the Riley children’s stories!
Bloomington High School South Dance Marathon could not be as successful as it is without the help from family and friends. This year our group is hoping to surpass our total last year and I would sincerely appreciate any donation that you are able to offer. Please remember that any amount helps!
