Laleh's Super-Awesome Build-A-Thon Page!
Hi, friends!
For those of you who don't know me, I'm an undergraduate student at San Francisco State University, (enthusiastically) studying biology. I would like to work in healthcare in the future. I'm a singer, a workaholic and a volunteer in at least one capacity throughout each year.
I have taken part in the Build-A-Thon for the past two years, and it's been a blast so far! With Habitat For Humanity, I've served as a fundraising coach, and I've also recruited some of my friends to help build for their first time. This is a great way to make a difference in our community here in Oakland.
The Earth Day Build-A-Thon is Habitat for Humanity East Bay's annual celebration of green building. We build green to take better care of our environment, our partner families, and our volunteers. Building green makes our program economically and ecologically sustainable, so that we can continue to serve families in our community.
Our Build-A-Thon is an accelerated build. While it would typically take several months to completely frame seven homes, we will do just that in only four days! To accomplish such a tremendous feat requires the participation of hundreds of community supporters. The Build-A-Thon is not only our biggest building event of the year, it is also our biggest fundraising event. Participants raise pledges, as they would for a walk-a-thon, to help raise the funds needed to purchase the building materials for the homes.
I'll be building on Sunday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Yay!
thanks thanks thanks,
