Lamar Brown's Du Worlds Fundraising Page
Thanks for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and secure. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Hi, my name is Lamar Brown and I’m a 100% blind athlete. I’ve been a long-time member of Achilles International (a not-for-profit organization encouraging athletes with disabilities to compete in mainstream athletics) since 1999, and continue to consistently participate in their weekly workouts. As a result of my commitment, I was selected by Achilles staff to receive their Top Male Athlete award in 2009. The award is presented to an athlete with disability whose dedication, perseverance, enthusiasm, and athletic success inspires all Achilles members to pursue their goals.
In less than 3 months, we plan on going to Gijon, Spain to compete in the Duathlon World Championships. The race is on September 24 2011, where we will take on the elite Para duathletes in the world. In 2010 (Edinburgh, Scotland), my guide Andy Huh and I placed 3rd in the world in the TRI-6 category. TRI-6 identifies all those athletes with any visual impairment which would obviously have an impact on their ability to race.
Bronze is nice but GOLD sounds better! I am extremely psyched about the possibility of bringing home some hardware for the USA and Achilles. It is simply impossible to articulate the sense of pride that I experienced last September in Edinburgh standing proudly on the podium with the US national anthem blaring in the background.
Please help our mission and aid us in getting to Spain this year. With your generosity you continue to help dreams come true. The target goal of $6,000 will help myself and a guide with travel expenses, accomodations, as well as mandatory team uniforms and equipment transportation. Please forward this page to any interested persons who might want to contribute.
Thank you
All so much!
