Laur McSpadden's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
The work of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley is deeply important on both personal and societal levels, and I would greatly appreciate your support in helping us cultivate a healthy, inclusive environment where individuals of all sexual orientations and gender expressions are safe, thriving, and enjoy full civil rights.
A 2009 study conducted at San Francisco State University revealed that adolescents who were rejected by their families for being LGBT were 8.4 times more likely to attempt suicide than their peers. A study by the US Dept. of Health and Human Services determined that suicide is the leading cause of death among gay and lesbian youth.
The Seattle Commission on Children and Youth found that approximately 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBT.
An Intelligence Report analysis of 14 years of hate crime data reveals that LGBT people are by far the most targeted group for violent hate crimes in America, and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute Report determined that at least 75% of crimes against gays and lesbians never get reported.
The Gay Alliance works hard to change these aspects of today's world. Our programs include CampusOUT, Community Safety, Education & Outreach, InQueery, the Library & Archives, a Speakers' Bureau, and the Youth Program. Our montly publication, The Empty Closet, is one of the nation's oldest continuously-published LGBT periodicals in the nation.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
