This summer, I will be participating in the 2nd annual Ride for Pride! This is a two-wheeled hootenany of a fundraiser, with all proceeds going directly to the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley.
That's right: I will be biking 100 km down the Erie Canal bike trail, along with several other LGBTQQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and allied) bicyclists who care about equality!
I am on the staff of the Gay Alliance, and am proud to be a part of the valuable (and even life-saving) work that we do. A member of our Youth Program has shared with us that "If there was no Gay Alliance... I would still be in that mentality of feeling alone. The Gay Alliance saved my life." I am honored to be able to bike these miles with friends and allies, and thereby help support the work of the Gay Alliance.
I am following the tradition started by Jeanne Gainsburg, our fearless Outreach Coordinator, at last year's Ride for Pride: "Support me in my effort and I will ride with pride with your name written in indelible ink on my body. Sponsor me at the $50 level or higher and you can pick your body part! =) Ooh-lah-lah!" How's that for a deal?
Thank you for your caring support, and for your generosity. :-)
