Did you know that:
* 1 in 4 teenaged girls will have an STD
* The CDC estimates that every year in the U.S., 56,000 people are infected with HIV?
* 1 in 3 newly infected with HIV is between the ages of 13-25?
* 25% of those infected with HIV do not know it?
* New York cases account for approximately 18% of all HIV cases in the U.S.?
Because the fight is not over, I am running in the 13th Annual AIDS Hike for Life on Sunday, May 1st. Fund raised dollars help support AIDS Community Resources's Adolescent Prevention Programs and gives ACR the resources to provide direct support to hundreds of individuals and their families who are infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
AIDS Community Resources is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1983. Its mission is to prevent the spread o HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, to provide support services to those who are living ih HIV/AIDS, and to promote sexual literacy and improved medical outcomes.
When you donate, your money goes towards the Teen AIDS Task Force, The DIVAS Program (Discovering Important ad Valuable information About Self), the Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, and Questioning Youth Programs in Utica, and the Emercengy Basic Human Needs initiative.
With the money raised by the Hike for Life, we as a community will be able to promote and teach about safe sex and will bring much needed help to individuals for whom it is too late.
Living on a college campus, I think that education about safe sex and sexual literacy is very important to keeping students healthy and happy.
Your small donation can help bring our world closer to being free from AIDS. Thank you so much for helping us in our Hike For Life!
