Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I'm running the Boston Run to Remember Half-Marathon on May 27th, 2012, which is my 27th Birthday. This is going to be my 2nd time running this race and my 7th half-marathon. It's kind of a big deal...
Which is why I am so happy to be running this event for the Boston chapter of Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run is an amazing non-profit program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.
When I was in middle school, I absolutely dreaded running the mile. Four laps around the track seemed like eternity and the most boring thing ever. And even through high school and college, although I played sports and was pretty active, running was never something I saw as fun. I started running after I graduated college, when a friend encouraged me to sign up for a 5k. When I finished that race, I had such a sense of pride and accomplishment. And I was hooked. Since then, I've run over 30 races.
The really great thing about Girls on the Run is that they make running enjoyable and empowering for the girls, something my 4th grade gym teachers never tried to do. The program combines training for a 5k race with fun self-esteem enhancing workouts. I wish there was a program like this when I was growing up. My awkward, glasses wearing, metal-mouth, smiling self really could have used it.
By raising $1000, we will be able to provided 4 spots in the program for girls who can't afford the tuition. Any little bit helps.
If you donate, $27.27 or more, you'll be eligible to win a batch of homemade muffins. I'll make 10 batches. If you donate $100 or more, I'll make you a baked good of your choice!
Thanks so much!
