Thank you for taking the time to read about how Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation is helping six hounds injured in a recent kennel fire in Northern Virginia.

How Their Story Began:

A tragic kennel fire on March 11th claimed the lives of 17 dogs and 3 horses and left many others injured. The needs of the survivors was overwhelming and Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation stepped in to help.

Six dogs joined the LDCRF family that day and in time all six - Ranger, Rascal, Ramey, Duchess, Reckon and Sapphire- will find their way to loving forever homes with LDCRF assistance.

The blaze left Duchess and Sapphire with severe burns and injuries and it took all of Ramey’s young puppies, leaving her not only injured, but emotionally wrought as well.   Ranger and Rascal were fortunate to have relatively minor injuries, requiring only a short stay at the hospital. Reckon bounced back quickly, but had a few complications in his healing process.

Hopeful Healing:

The road to healing has been longer than we expected. The third degree burns left the dogs open to infections and zapped their bodies of resources. Several of the dogs required multiple plasma transfusions and lengthy treatment with IV fluids. Most of them required hospitalization for several weeks.

Happily, all six dogs are either in foster care or ready to enter foster homes where they can begin the second phase of their recovery. BUT WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP!

You can help too:

Our organization has lined up donations from animal care entities and individuals with caring hearts, but the need is great.

Please join us and the other members of the canine community who have pledged to help these hounds on their path to a happy home. Your contribution will go a long way to giving these dogs a new “leash” on life.

Those entities currently contributing to “Helping The Hounds” include:

Ayrshire Farms
Dr. Tommy Walker, DVM of DC Vets
The Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank
Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates
Meriel Corporation

100% of donations received will go directly to veterinary care, medicines and food-related expenses for these dogs.

We will keep you updated on Ranger, Rascal, Ramey, Reckon, Duchess and Sapphire via this website.
