In 2004 a 6th grader in my school district by the name of Emily, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I became her teacher while she was homebound. Over the years I kept encouraging her to come to a Ride for Kids event. She and her parents came for just the Celebration of Life in 2007. The next year they came for the whole event, but she still wasn’t comfortable about riding on a motorcycle. After seeing a parent with their child in a side car, her mom said maybe next year they would ride…there wasn’t to be another opportunity. Emily became one of our Stars in Heaven 5 weeks prior to the 2009 Ride.
Emily is just one of too many children who lose their battle with this deadliest of childhood cancers. The only way to fight back is through research. Even those that manage to survive continue to struggle with many permanent side effects from the chemotherapy and radiation treatments. New and less invasive methods are needed and this can only be accomplished through research.
Please help us help them….
Your donation, no matter how large or small becomes a symbol of hope to the children and their families, as they face the challenge of daily life, hoping the next medical discovery will be the key to a healthy future. No child or family should have to go through what they do.
