Hello! Welcome to the Firstgiving site for the Stanford chapter of GRID Alternatives, StanfordGRID!
StanfordGRID is the first campus chapter of GRID Alternatives, a nonprofit organization providing solar installation and energy efficiency services to low-income homeowners using volunteers and job trainees around the Bay Area and Los Angeles. StanfordGRID is currently fundraising to install a solar electric system for Mother Oneida Branch of East Palo Alto.
For more than 50 years, Mother Branch has been providing food, shelter, clothing and assistance to those in need in her community. Mother Branch runs the East Palo Alto Community Service Center out of her modest home and tirelessly serves the homeless and needy in East Palo Alto. Mother Branch runs the community service center year-round and no one is ever turned away. Due to circumstances, Mother Branch was unable to secure a low interest low-income home rehabilitation loan from the City of East Palo Alto.
As a group of undergraduate and graduate students excited about giving back to the local community by bringing renewable energy to low-income residents, StanfordGRID aims to fundraise $5000 to install a solar electric system on Mother Branch’s roof in April 2008. The funds raised will go towards purchasing the solar system equipment and related installation costs.
