Linda's BARCC walk page
Hi,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center's 4th annual Walk For Change. On April 5, 2009 over a thousand men, women and children will gather at Canal Park to walk along both sides of the Charles, to gather together, to earn funds for BARCC and to show by our presence that it is not ok that in the United States a sexual assault occurs every 2 minutes.
Did you know that in the state of Massachusetts, alone, 12 people are raped or sexually assaulted EVERY DAY! Statistics such as these are shocking and we know that a rape doesn't affect just one person. The survivors friends, family and loved one's are also impacted.
Many of you have already pledged to support me and I thank you for that! It does feel a bit wierd asking for money this way, but if I don't do it then I'll never reach my personal goal of $1,000 in donations for BARCC...so...here I am.
BARCC's a great organization and I'm proud to be a volunteer for their CAPS program. Through CAPS we attend various community fairs, where we hand out flyers, talk to folks, and generally help to educate the community about rape and sexual assault. We also offer specific training for first responders and bystanders. If your organization is interested in hosting a training or inviting us to "table" at an upcoming event, please call BARCC. Knowing the extent of the problem and developing the tools to address it are important first steps toward stopping rape and sexual assault.
BARCC also offers a 24/7 hotline for survivors and those who have been affected by rape (800.841.8371). In addition to these, we provide counselling services, and medical advocates who will meet a survivor at the hospital. As you can see, your donations help support a very important mission! Please take a minute to check out our web page at: www.barcc.org
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. :-)
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate!
