Billions of farm animals suffer everyday in factory farms.  They live a short and miserable life and are caged, fed and drugged in order to create more money for agri-businesses.  Besides the cruelty to animals (as if that weren't enough reason), the other devastating results are destruction of the environment, food-borne illnesses, diseases caused by unhealthy diets and small family farms being forced out of their livelihood.  (By the way, spinach doesn't grow naturally with e-coli - it comes from manure contamination, most often from cattle & dairy farm runoff.)
