SUFFOLK HUMANE SOCIETY, INC.

4th Annual Mutt Strut Dog Walk & Festival Suffolk,  Virginia

4th Annual Mutt Strut Dog Walk & Festival

Hi - thanks for visiting my page!!   I am really excited about participating as a virtual walker in the fourth annual Mutt Strut Fundraiser for the Suffolk Humane Society. It's amazing to see what this group of dedicated volunteers has accomplished in the last year, including hundreds of animals adopted through our partnership with Suffolk Animal Control and almost 200 cats and kittens adopted through our own Suffolk Humane Society foster program.

My own "personal project" for the year has been Charlie - that gorgeous 11 year old Pomeranian pictured at the right.  He arrived at Suffolk Animal Control as a stray and was Heartworm positive.  It didn't take take long  before that little fuzzy face was in foster at my home in order to get the life-saving treatment he needed.  Along the way he received additional care for an ear infection, tapeworms, a genetic problem causing extreme coughing, and spinal issues.  Oh, and let's not forget he lost almost 20% of his orginal body weight in order to get down to a more "Pom appropriate" size.  Wow!  This little guy was put through the wringer but it never affected his delightful, spirited attitude or infectious smile.  And I'm betting you smiled and went "awwwww" as soon as you looked at the photo!

We depend on our great volunteers to help restore animals like Charlie to good health, assist with adoption events, help educate our community on what it means to be a responsible pet guardian, and assist in coordinating low-cost spay and neuter services  throughout the community.  I am blessed to be part of a team that is tightly focused on our goal of ending euthanasia as a means of controlling pet over-population in Suffolk.

We are able to continue this important work because of the support of wonderful people like you. How can you help? Here are some options:
1) You can sponsor me by clicking on the green "Donate" link. (Or, if you prefer to contribute by cash or check, just email me at ljvetter1@verizon.net and we can set that up.)
2) You can sign up for the event and join in the fun!! You can be a "Mutt Strutter" even if you don't have a dog or are not able to bring your furbaby to the event. Just click on the "I want to raise money too" above to register. Registration cost is just $15 and we are asking each participant to pledge to raise at least $50.00 (which will entitle you to a goody bag and event t-shirt).
3) Come on out to the event and just enjoy the day - it is open to the public and free admission. We had an estimated 4500 people enjoy the beautiful weather, family-oriented activities, rescue groups, and vendors at the 2010 Mutt Strut. If you can, please join us this year from 1-5 on Sunday, Sept 18 at Sleepy Hole Park (4700 Sleepy Hole Road) for another fun-filled day with all the wet noses and puppy kisses you can stand!

Charlie say "Arf, Arf," which is Pom-speak for "thank you for your support!!"
