July 2008
Hello family and friends,
Matt and I have decided to run in a ½ marathon. We are participating in the Rock-N-Roll Marathon to be held in San Antonio on November 16, 2008. My good friend Michelle Dalton just completed the full marathon at the Rock-N-Roll Marathon in San Diego, California. She trained and raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of our good friend Amy Wolfe who passed away in 2004. I’m so proud of what Michelle did and I know that Amy would be proud too. Michelle approached me about this marathon coming to San Antonio and asked if Matt and I would want to do it with her and her husband Dan, so we thought about it for awhile and said "sure why not!"
I am doing this for so many reasons. The first is that Michelle inspired me so much by what she did. She completed 26.2 miles! That is a huge accomplishment.
I’m also doing this for my health. I have been a smoker for many years. This marathon will be a good reason to stop because it will make the training so much easier and I will be a healthier person for all those around me.
Finally, I wanted to do this for someone who I've lost to cancer. I think it will be so important to be doing this and knowing that Matt and I are raising money for a good cause. We will be running in the marathon for my Grandmother, Cleo Ferrell Warren. She was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in July of ’89 and passed away on Valentine’s Day in 1990. She was a feisty lady, full of life and a wonderful cook. She was loved by so many and is still missed so much.
I think that she would be proud of what we are doing in her honor. I know that this is going to be a challenge for me because I’m not an athlete but I know I’m doing it for so many good reasons.
So Matt and I are raising money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Any donation would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all for your support!
Update: 11/1/08
We are excited and ready for this race. I am trying to eat healthier too for these next two weeks. Trying to remember to drink lots of water also. Matt is hunting and will be back next week and then the following weekend is when we head to Michelle and Dan's house to stay with them for the race. I'm getting a little nervous about all this because I don't feel like I'm going to finish with a good time but Michelle just keeps telling me I will be just fine and to just take my time. I'm hoping I finish it within at least five hours. ha ha...oh yeah by the way I'm still smoke free!!! Yeah me! Haven't cheated at all!!!!
Again thank you so much for all of your support and donations. We really appreciate everyone's well wishes for the marathon. I will post pictures after we get back home. Thanks again!!!
