It was the hottest day of July, with a heat index of 104 degrees, when Maya appeared weak and stumbling at our doorstep. The kind woman who brought Maya to safety had seen her limping around a construction site with little relief or shade for a few days, her belly expanding minute by minute, and her gait weakening with every passing day as the exhaustion of pregnancy settled in and began to take its toll. Yes, Maya came to us approximately 8 weeks pregnant, with less than a week remaining until she would give birth! The sad look in this poor girl’s eyes as she collapsed on the cool lobby floor begged us not to turn her away.
After exploring various options for Maya and her soon to be little family, RBARI Staff decided the best option for the girl who had suffered for so long, was in fact, to remain in our care. Maya became fully engulfed in RBARI’s mission to offer safe shelter and care to those animals in most desperate need, and to see them through to finding their forever homes.
It's been 5 weeks since Maya's 11 pups were born. Maya is thriving, her propensity for giving lots of kisses wins over everyone who meets her, and the pups are starting to bounce around, entertaining us with their antics. Soon it will be time to send them all on their way, into new homes that will love them as much as we have come to love them ourselves.
This is what I do. It's what I love.
I can't imagine not having a place like R.B.A.R.I. in my world. It's my sanctuary and it holds a special place in my heart.
Every day I wake up and smile into the furry faces of my own 3 pups, and every evening they welcome me home with such entusiasm and heart. I can't imagine not knowing the love of an animal such as this.
R.B.A.R.I. not only gives me the opportunity to save more wonderful pets like my own, but to give families in our community the opportunity to know the same unconditional love that I do when they welcome a R.B.A.R.I. dog or cat into their lives.
R.B.A.R.I. survives soley on donations and fundraising efforts. So in order for R.B.A.R.I. to continue on its mission, won't you please consider contributing? No amount is too small and anything that you can do to help is greatly appreciated!
With Love,
Lisa, Tanner, Tessie & Tucker Sam!
