Our friend, Blake Porter, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2001. He was only 13 years old. Despite this, Blake's life was not about having a brain tumor.
His life was Brave's baseball, bowling, his friends, old Mustang's and music. He played the drums, bass guitar and, oddly enough, he loved bagpipes. He wanted to fly airplanes and learn about old architecture. He was a normal kid with big dreams and a huge capacity for love.
Blake had an amazing attitude and touched and inspired countless others before he passed away last October at only 16 years of age.
After his diagnosis, Blake and his family became very involved with the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children, Inc. (BTFC) in Atlanta. The staff at BTFC provided, and continues to provide, friendship, hope and emotional support to the Porters. It also does this for countless other families going through the nightmare of a brain tumor diagnosis.
I would like to ask for you to help Matt and me honor Blake's memory and help the BTFC continue to help others. Blake wanted to find a cure, so we think he would be happy to know that we are continuing to fight against this horrible disease for him. Will you please join us?
Matt and I have set an ambitious goal to raise $5,000.00 by the day of the walk. We cannot begin to meet that goal without your help. You can help by:
*Registering for the walk. Put your walking/running shoes on and join our team, "Blake's Buddies" for the walk. Go to www.firstgiving.com/btfc to register. Please indicate our team name on the registration form. See you there!
*Register in person on race day.
*Donate in memory of Blake using this sponsorship page. See above "GIVE NOW".
(**Please note that registering to walk/run is totally separate from donating. It is awesome if you can do both! It ALL goes to the BTFC.**)
*Mark your calendars for November 4th!
Last year our team was #1 in pledges, raising $2,745.00. Let's do it again! We would also like to have the largest team this year so, come on out!
Donating through this site is fast, easy and secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to the BTFC. All donations are tax deductible.
Thank you for your support. Please forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Blake's couragous fight is over, but there are many other children and their families that are still fighting hard, and they need our help.
We have made a commitment to the BTFC. Please help us support this worthy organization and help these special families keep fighting.
Please email us at h1988@bellsouth.net for any questions. We would love to hear from you.
You can also go to the BTFC website at www.braintumorkids.org for details about last years race, info on brain tumors, info on how the funds are used and much more.
