Team Jared Payne - LaPerche Elementary School Smithfield RI

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for visiting Jared’s page for the Austism Project of RI’s 10th Annual Autism Walk and Family Fun Day. This is an event we look forward to every April and we hope you enjoy reading about Jared’s progress over the past year.

Whether it is your first visit, you joined somewhere along the way, or you have been with us since Jared’s journey began, words cannot express what your continued love and support means to us. Jared has made much progress over the past year, but it has not come without its share of challenges that he and we as a family continue to face. As he continues to struggle with his expressive language, his frustrations have elevated. But we continue to search and find new ways to assist him in overcoming his daily obstacles while working with everyone to fine tune his language and communication skills. He has developed his own “words” that you can’t help but love, but sometimes only we can understand what he actually says. So hopefully as he learns to read and write (or type) new words every day, everyone will know exactly what he is trying to say! In Jared’s world, technology truly is a beautiful thing!

Late last year we also decided to make 2012 Jared’s “Year of Firsts”. At almost 9 years old, we wanted him to be doing what other children his age were doing rather than letting his autism prevent him from participating. So, in the Fall, he began CCD classes to make his First Communion and now enjoys attending Mass regularly. After watching his brother take hockey lessons, he also skated for the very first time and loved it! (Could playing hockey someday be in his future too?) And although he has been to the Dunkin Donuts Center for several events, he attended his first PC Basketball game with family and loved the blowout upset win against Louisville. As the year goes by, we are planning to have many more “firsts” and will continue to share them with all of you!

So please consider making a donation on Jared’s behalf to the Autism Project of RI this year? They truly are an organization that our family and many others could not do without while raising a child with autism. We appreciate any amount you are willing to donate. And don’t forget, this fundraiser continues to have a dual purpose. The Autism Project of Rhode Island incorporates a team challenge that we have accomplished each year since it started. And last year, with all the generous donations we received we actually earned two training spots for their comprehensive classes! Whether you are able to make a donation or not this year, would you consider joining us on this special day? We would love to have you walk with Jared’s team followed by the fun festivities the Autism Project of RI have planned for that day! You will truly be amazed and want to participate with us again just like we have for the past 8 years!

If this is your first time on this website, donating is fast, easy and totally secure. If you do not feel comfortable making a donation online, we will gladly accept your check donation. You can email me at or Facebook message me for our home address or to ask any questions. Please make your check payable to The Autism Project of Rhode Island and remember to put Team Jared Payne in the memo section for his Team. And don't forget to forward this link to anyone who you think might want to donate or hear about Jared too!

THANK YOU again for your continued love and support! We truly would not be able to guide Jared on his journey without our family and friends continuing to be there for us every step of the way!

With our heartfelt thanks,

Lisa and Ed Payne

Picture Note: Bandit is our cousins, Nick and Ali’s dog which Jared adores! There will be a puppy in the Payne family someday, but Mom needs more time since she still needs the empty house when she’s working every day! Tune in to see if it makes the Year of Firsts list! :)
