In recent months, anti-choicers both nationally and here in Wisconsin have become increasingly aggressive with their rhetoric and their actions.
In May of this year, abortion provider Dr. George Tiller was gunned down in his Kansas church. The very week of Dr. Tiller's murder, Wisconsin Right to Life ran a newspaper ad full of inflammatory rhetoric that specifically named a Madison abortion provider.
Since then, Wisconsin Right to Life and Pro-Life Wisconsin have continued the inflammatory rhetoric running both television and newspaper ads attacking abortion providers with a targeted focus on the Madison Surgery Center.
Last week, the Human Life Alliance ran a 12 page advertising insert in college newspapers across the state. The insert makes false claims about contraception causing abortion, abortion causing breast cancer, and other myths.
And September 23 marked the start of 40 Days of Life which may be more accurately described as 40 Days of Harassment. Beginning on this date, anti-choice groups spend 24 hours a day for 40 days straight maintaining a threatening and harassing presence outside of not only abortion clinics but also family planning centers that provide contraception. In Wisconsin alone, 40 Days for Life protesters are present outside at least 6 medical facilities across the state.
The 40 Days for Life campaign is now broadcasting that their harassment has resulted in 2 clinic workers quitting during the first 7 days of their activities. We can not let harassment by anti-choice extremists continue!
