Hello Family and Friends,
As many of you remember, in March 2005, my good friend Laura was randomly raped and killed in Burlington, Vermont following a casual evening out with a circle of our friends. It was a horrific event that shocked the community and raised questions of safety in Burlington.
Through the establishment of the Laura Kate Winterbottom Memorial Fund, we have been able to continue Laura's legacy to build a safer community the past three years. The proceeds from Laura's March on September 6, 2008 will continue to sponsor two important and underfunded projects: (1) the recent creation of "Laura's Room" at the Women's Rape Crisis Center where victims and families receive counciling services and (2) purchasing additional "Laura's Kits" which are education training materials to service 30 Chittenden County elementary schools to aid children affected by domestic violence. The intent is to enable children to express themselves in appropriate and constructive ways, in an attempt to have early intervention thus breaking the insidious cycle of abuse.
Thank you so much for supporting me and the Winterbottom family in this important second annual event. Any donation, no matter how great or small, will greatly help.
See these other websites for more information about the Fund and our efforts: www.lkwfund.org and www.firstgiving.com/lkwfund .
THANK YOU!!!
