On October 17, Carrie and Doug will participate in the Allan D. Morrison 5K Race in Melrose, MA. The race is dedicated to raising money for LBD research and awareness. Allan's daughter, Coleen Greco, organized this event in honor of her dad, who, like Larry, is among the 800,000 Americans who have Lewy body dementia.
If you have never heard of an LBD event, or even heard of the disease itself, you're not alone. Lewy body dementia is the second leading cause of degenerative dementia in the elderly and accounts for almost 20% of all dementia cases -- but most people, including many physicians, know nothing about LBD.
Larry, like many LBD patients, also suffers from Parkison's disease. Although research on both Parkinson's and Alzheimer's has provided some insight into how LBD works, little work has so far been done to develop treatments that address LBD's particular characteristics.
All donations, in whatever amount, will go directly to the Lewy Body Dementia Association to support its work on behalf of Lewy body patients and their families and caregivers. We will be grateful for whatever you are able to contribute, in honor of Larry and in honor and memory of the many others who share his struggle.
Donating online through this website is simple, fast, and totally secure. But if you prefer not to donate online, you can send a check made out to "Lewy Body Dementia Association" to me at my home address. I will send it along to LBDA.
Love and thanks from Lois, Larry, and our wonderful kids and grandkids.
