Lon Symensma's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
Earlier this year I noticed a small, dark, abnormal looking growth on my left shin. I went to the dermatologist who took a biopsy of the site. The results of that biopsy left me diagnosed with melanoma, a very serious form of skin cancer that is a growing epidemic in our society.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be diagnosed with skin cancer. I’m a physically fit 32-year old who rarely sunbathes and has no family history of the disease. The news was terrifying and life changing. Since my diagnosis in April, I have had two surgeries to remove the cancer, and have just recovered enough from my second surgery to start training again.
My friends and I have recently organized a team under the Miles for Melanoma fundraising program. Our team, SPF 303, is running in this year’s Boulder Half Marathon to raise money for the Melanoma Research Foundation and to promote awareness on the serious risks associated with skin cancer.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
