SKY HARBOR is a non profit, 501 C3 organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and hoepful release of Forida's protected & endangered wildlife. Our permitting is for small mammals and all birds! We have been involved in rescue of wildlife for 18 years and founded SKy Harbor in 1998!
Early last year, our center was donated $12,000 worth of large zoo cages and other items, from Jungleland Zoo, a defunct zoo in Kissimmee, Florida. It was necessary for us to travel to Kissimmee and disassemble the cages, transport them to our center, over two hours away and reassemble them on our land! It has been a long, costly and trying year, getting them all installed.
We have completed the new cages and we have 26 raccoons in them awaiting release in the next few months. Although cash donations are always a great help, we also accept "in-kind" material donations, used and new items that can be incorporated into the wildlife area for their use and enjoyment. The photo at right shows an aerial view of the wildlife area at Sky Harbor, with the new zoo cages in place!
At this time, we need about 8 panels of pvc lattice panels to redo our fence to the bird release area. The original stockade fence has served its purpose and is very rotted now! We plan to replace it with lattice panels and beautiful vines. Patio stones, flagstone or any other walkway type stone is needed to create safe, attractive walkways through the wildlife area. Plants, shrubs, flowers, are needed to create privacy areas between the cages. Nearly 99% of all plants and trees on premise were donated, dug up and replanted from another yard or landscape area! Any type of yard decor, benches, bird baths, statues, trellis, birdhouses, landscape items, etc can be recycled to add to our wildlife area!
We provide educational programs and private tours of the facility for a donation. Our center has grown from a small backyard center to a beautiful two acres of serene wildlife rehabilitation center.
