Our daughter Kari was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Nephritis (Kidneys) 5 years ago.........she has been treated with Chemo therapy, blood transfusions and many many medicatons at the University of Michigan Hospital.......the money raised by this foundation has allowed people who suffer from lupus to fight back..........although when you see Kari you usually can not tell that she fights this horrible disease every day......she keeps a very good attitude about herself and her disease.......but she fights it hard and we are so proud of her ...it is heartbreaking  to see her in this pain......but she is amazing!!

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune disease which means that the body's natural defense system attacks it's own tissues instead of attacking foreign substances like bacteria and viruses.  This causes inflamation.  Inflamation causes swelling, pain, tissue damage throughout the body. If you develop severe Lupus you may have problems with Kidneys, heart, lungs, nervous system or blood cells.
