Once again, I have lost my mind. Not that I had a whole lot left to lose but it appears my good sense has flown out the frost-covered window.
I'm jumping in the Deschutes River for Special Olympics provided the river isn't still frozen over. If it is, I suppose you could plunge for how many skips I'll make before rocketing face first in the opposing bank. Personally, I think this kind of competition would attract a LOT more participants as well as media coverage but nobody asked me. They never do.
So, please throw some coin for the Special Olympics of Oregon. It's pretty hard to find a more worthy cause and it makes a great tax write-off. You can feel oh, so superior to those who do not donate. If you want, I'll send you a print-out of a sign (the coveted Sign O' Smug) that reads, "I AM BETTER THAN YOU BECAUSE I SUPPORT SPECIAL OLYMPICS." You will definitely be the envy of all you know and if you tape it to your forehead, you can sneak a nap without anyone noticing. Don't be surprised if this fashion statement soon appears on the runways of Paris.
And yes; I am doing this for KC (of KC and Ron, Classic Rock 98.3 The Twins) because she will be busy mc-ing the event and microphones and water tend not to mix too well. And I hope my donations beat the pants off Ron but if they do, I hope someone will give him an extra-long shirt to cover up. I've seen him in biker shorts and it's not pretty. He's threatening to wear see-through Speedos and they do not make sunglasses dark enough to protect me from the glare.
If asked, my family will tell you it is a lot harder on them to watch me plunge than it is for me to go in the water. Last year they were bundled up so tight you could only see a slight bulge to let you know where their eyes were located and yet they still whined about it snowing. They watched me from the car; I kid you not. But it's me going in the water, not them, so they'll have to learn to endure the cold. Builds character.
I'm doing this for the Special Olympics, of course, but also because I'm hoping it will either burn a lot of calories or freeze my fat so it can be chipped off.
Thanks for reading and remember: it's for the kids!
