Training buddies: Kevin Babor and Nikki Cain

Lynn Marie Babor's Fundraising Page

As many of you know, we have been training since May for the big event and it is just around the corner.  We have been so appreciative of your encouragement and support the last few months, now we need your help to make this experience a true success.

This past May, we decided to let our bodies do the talking and we committed to run the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 11th for Team World Vision.  Yes, Kevin and Lynn are running the Marathon, 26.2 miles!!!  Last fall we were inspired as we watched footage during our church service of water wells be installed in underdeveloped communities because of our Team’s efforts in running the Chicago Marathon.  To see families rejoicing over clear water emerging from a pump, similar to what we find in our local forest preserves.  Tears of joy because they won’t have to walk ten miles to retrieve water from a hole we would probably pull our pets from if we saw them attempting to drink from.  These families were preparing food with unsanitary water, bathing with it and most importantly, giving it to their children.   We watched this and looked at one another and thought, we could do this, we should do this!  This spring, we signed up and committed to the run and this powerful organization.     The orange, Team World Vision shirts simply reads…

I care. And so I run.

Each time the ten mile mark came up during training, I asked myself, “What if I had to go this far to get water for me, for us, for the boys?”  When I passed the water fountain in Armstrong Park, that has three spicket levels of fountains, the lowest one is for a dog; I shook my head, and thought… there are people in this world that would drink from that same spicket if they had the chance.  We take so many things for granted and don’t realize that we truly are blessed.

We have sustained some injuries through our journey, a couple of sore knees, some black and blue toenails, which I hear will fall off and hopefully grow back, but we have gained an open heart and a purpose.  We know that the economy is tough, but we are asking you to help us make our fundraising goal for this worthy cause.   You may wonder, why did we wait until now to fundraise for this cause if it is so important to us?  We wanted to prove to you our commitment, how long we have trained, how we have felt and to what lengths we are willing to go.  Watch us run with your donation on October 11th, and you will be there with us on race day, helping us make the impossible possible.

You care.  And so we run.

With God’s Blessings,

Lynn and Kevin
