Lyric's Gotta Get to the Games Page
Hello Dear Friends and Family,
In some ways it seems longer than 12 years and in some ways it seems like it can't have been that long since I got my new liver. Since then I have lived almost half my life BLT (before liver transplant) and what a gift those years have been. If I had to sum it up in one word it would be PERSPECTIVE. I have perspective on what is important, and what is not worth whining about. Almost nothing is.
Since the transplant, I've also come to cherish my relationships more than I ever have before. I look at each of you in my circle and am reminded about some special gift that you have shared with me, whether small or large and I am thankful. Many times the gift of a well placed touch or word or hug has made all the difference. You have all touched me throughout these last years and I am thankful for you all. I would be remiss if I did not mention those for which I am the most thankful, Nicholas, my donor, and his family who carried out his wishes. Without them all, I would not be here, and I make every effort to remember his gift daily and keep my perspective in line as I go through my second chance at life. :0)
I can't believe it's less than three months until the Games and time to end the procrastination and start the fundraising to get me there! This will be my fifth games as a member of Team Alabama, but only my second as an actual athlete so I am looking forward to taking everything in, having bequeathed the managerial role to someone else. I'm not really that athletic, but the Games is held every two years and there is a place for everyone from the strong competitor to the couch potato. We are all just so happy to be alive that we want to show the world that transplants really do work.
Many of those who really know me will be wondering what sport(s) I might be participating in since bowling didn't go over so well last time. Well, this girl is skipping the air conditioned events and going hard-core to track and field. Stop Laughing! I mean it! For those of you who remember the B's I struggled to get in college PE, you can't say I'm not giving it a good try. How does shotput and discus sound, serious right? I am practicing and I'm hoping to do well enough to avoid bruising my ego or breaking my foot <G>.
In case you haven't figured it out by now, I am asking for your support in whatever way you can give it. I welcome any donation large or small. I would also welcome your emails and notes cheering me on as I prepare for the Games in July. Though I don't consider myself a true athlete, Nicholas truly was, so I am dedicating this Games experience to his memory as I work to get physically and fiscally prepared. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Of course, checks are acceptable too and can be made to the NKF of Alabama (501C3 Charity) and mailed to my home address which is: 1833 Hamilton Road, Pelham, Alabama 35124
Many thanks for your support.
My love to you all,
Lyric
