Mallory Mead's Ocean's Seven Challenge
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I am on my way to become the FIRST person in the world to swim the Ocean's Seven - the open water swimming version of the Seven Summits. I am taking on this amazing adventure to help kids who are struggling every day with brain tumors. I am partnering with The Endurance Trust to raise money for, and awareness of, Pediatric Brain Tumor Research and The Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana.
On July 26, 2008, I took my first step and became the 777th person to successfully swim the English Channel under the Channel Swimming Association in 10 hours 34 minutes. For my efforts I was awarded the Robert Lyle Memorial Trophy for being the Channel Swimming Association’s Fastest American of the Year. I was also awarded The Sotiraki Trophy for being the Fastest Lady of the Year.
In 2009, after a year of disappointments and cancelled swims, I recommitted herself to the sport and placed 1st in my age group and 2nd Woman Overall at the USMS 10k Open Water Nationals.
Both of my swims for 2010, Catalina Channel in California and the Molokai Channel in Hawaii, are Ocean’s Seven swims. By the end of 2010 I hope to have completed three out of the seven swims. After the completion of the Catalina Channel, I will also join the ranks of Triple Crown Swimmers (currently 30 in the world) for having swam Catalina Channel, the English Channel, and the Manhattan Island Marathon swim.
