For those of you that don't know, I almost lost my wife Tanja twice in a span of two months back in late 2009-early 2010.

Her first life-threatening illness was viral encephalitis, and the second was Stevens Johnson Syndrome.  Most people have heard of encephalitis, but Stevens Johnson Syndrome is less well known, which is why I chose it as the charity for my race.

SJS or TENS  is a very painful and traumatic illness that burns the skin from the inside out, and often does severe damage to the skin and eyes.  Tanja was fortunate that hers was caught early and she had excellent doctors at Loyola, but many people aren't as lucky.  

I'm running my first marathon, in an attempt to raise as much money as possible for the Stevens Johnson Syndrome Foundation.  Thanks for giving to this worthy cause!

I've included a video of one woman's journey after contracting the disease.  It is an example of how damaging it can be.  Tanja was lucky that hers was caught early on!
