Waterton Glacier Lake Jump Glacier Park,  Montana

Marc Ankenbauer: Waterton-Glacier Lake Jump page

Happy Spring Everyone!!  I'm getting excited to get up to Glacier and try and finish the project up.  I may not finish, but I plan on getting real close.  17 out of 168 lakes left to get in to. Going to work on filming a documentary this summer.  The final push for lakes to jump into!  I figured that too deserved to be in HD.

Also check out http://glacierlakejumping.blogspot.com/  Other blog stories on it.

Hello,

My name is Marc Ankenbauer.  Thank you very much for visiting the WATERTON GLACIER LAKE JUMPING PROJECT donation page.

What is that and who gets the donations?

Over the last eight years I have been attempting to “jump” in every named lake in Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.  This is the wild mountainous area where the Rocky Mountains run over the U.S./Canadian border.  It is over a million acres of enormous mountains, dense forests and abundant wildlife which includes the king of the jungle, the grizzly bear.   Luckily for me, the glaciers and snow melt have created hundreds of frigid, crystalline lakes for me to jump into.

Heading into this summer, I have hiked, climbed, and thrashed my way to 111 swimming holes.  There are 166 named lakes within the park.  So, please follow along and donate what you can as I attempt the last 27 lakes.

As a young person, I had a brief bout with cancer.  Although no time with cancer is exactly brief, it is something you think of often and drives your actions throughout life.  This has instilled a powerful drive in me to experience life and its spectacular opportunities to the fullest.  This ideology was the catalyst in attempting my project.

My want to give back has connected me with Camp Mak A Dream. They are an organization in western Montana that provides medically supervised, cost-free programs for children, teens, young adults and families affected by cancer. You can learn more about this worthy cause at: www.campdream.org

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. You can also donate directly through the camp's website (using the link above) or by calling their office at (406)549-5987.

I wanted to point out that a wonderful man named Clare donated, but can't get recognition, because it was not through the website. Thanks Clare and Grace for your generous help.

If you would like to donate a dollar amount per lake instead of a bulk amount, that can be set up through contacting the camp directly at the number above.

I would also like to thank all of my friends and loved ones who have accompanied me on these highly ridiculous endeavors.  Although it takes a certain kind of person to take on this task, it takes an even crazier person to go along for no good reason.  So, thank you to everyone involved.  Check them all out at http://www.flickr.com/photos/lakejumpers

Check back on this page throughout the summer to read about my adventures.

Check out the blog that tells my lake bid stories though photos and words. I am going to keep adding as lakes fall this summer.  Check Back!! http://www.lakebid.blogspot.com/

I ended up being featured in National Geographic Wild Spaces Glacier National Park documentary that came out in August of 2010.  There is a trailer for the documentary that shows my story.  The link is as follows...

An clip of the documentary showed also on Good Morning America.  Check it out at this link below.

I've created a five minute YOUTUBE movie that explains the project  and shows many photos also: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuFW55EIsm0

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

Marc
