In February 2006, Marc's mother, Anne DePalma was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus.  Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the body's cells and tissues are attacked causing harm to the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, blood vessels and brain.  Currently there is no cure for lupus but research scientists continue to make great strides in understanding the disease, which may ultimately lead to a cure.
Marc DePalma and Philippe Santos are currently training for the Boston Marathon which takes place on April 20, 2009.
