The theme for the 21st Annual AIDSWALK is "I walk because..."

I walk because the Southern Arizona Aids Foundation has supported my friends and their families throughout the years while they were struggling to live with HIV/AIDS through direct support, medication, Food for Life, counseling and emotional support.

I walk in memory of Rick, Chuck, Glenn and Kevin and many others who touched my life over the years and are now gone.

I walk because SAAF promotes HIV/AIDS prevention education for youth and other at-risk groups to help reduce the number of people needing services in the future.  Glenn spent the last years of his life bringing the message of prevention to youth and other groups.   I walk to support his message.

I walk because HIV is not going away and there is no cure.  I walk to contradict those who say HIV/AIDS is now a manageable disease and no longer to be feared.  I walk to remind people that those living with HIV/AIDS are facing a daily battle for survival, the treatments are at best unpleasant and at worst debilitating and sometimes the treatments stop working and there is no treatment to replace them.

I walk because I still can and so many walk no longer. 

I will walk as long as I am able and as long as it takes until there is no need.
