May 8-11 I will be participating in the 2nd Annual Jared Shoemaker Memorial Walk to benefit Special Olympics. You may remember this event from last year.
Jared Shoemaker Corporal USMC along with two fellow Marines, Eric Valdepenas and Christopher Walsh, gave the ultimate sacrifice to his country on September 4th, 2006. Jared's vehicle struck a roadside bomb while patrolling the streets of Fallujah, Iraq with the 1/25 Marines Weapons Company.
Jared served his country and community in both the Marines and as a Tulsa Police Officer. Jared was well known both in the 1/25 Marines and the Tulsa Police Department for his friendly nature, unwavering character and exceptional leadership skills.
Like last year, we will walk from Tulsa to OSU in Stillwater to raise money in Jared's name for Oklahoma Special Olympics. We will arrive to join in the Opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympic Games. This walk will take place over May 8-11 and is roughly 69 miles.
Please help us raise funds, join us for any part of the walk, or challenge yourself to walk from Tulsa to Stillwater. Members of the 1/25 Marines, including some members from Jarod's unit, will again be joining us on the walk.
This is a great chance to honor Jared Shoemaker, Eric Valdepenas, Christopher Walsh and all servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. This is also a great opportunity to raise money for the great athletes of the Oklahoma Special Olympics.
