The Arc of Blair County has been in existence nearly as long as the national organization. Since 1954 The Arc of Blair County has worked tirelessly to promote equality for individuals with developmental disabilities. A lot of people do not realize that The Arc is grassroots - started by families who wanted change. The Arc receives no government funding. Funds are raised the old-fashioned way - through fundraisers and hard work. This is why your help is necessary.

 

Members and volunteers of The Arc of Blair County have worked tirelessly to create a voice that speaks of diversity, inclusion and acceptance. It is hard for me to fathom the progress that has been made in advocating for individuals who have a developmental disability. Labeling and name calling are not to be tolerated. Individuals with developmental delays have voices and choices. A person is able to choose where they want to work and live.

 

My page is not dedicated to one individual. There are so many people that have touched my life and shaped my belief that we all have the ability to learn, to work, to socialize and to be a part of a community. We have come a long way in advocating a community for all people, and yet we still have so far to go. The Arc of Blair County is continuing to advocate for full inclusion in schools, employment of individuals with intellectual or cognitive disabilities and public awareness to see a person not a disability.

 

Donating to The Arc of Blair County allows The Arc to continue the journey of full acceptance in society. It enables The Arc to host educational seminars, provide resources, offer recreational activities and communicate the need for ongoing advocacy efforts at no charge. One of the social activities is featured in the photo on my page. It is members of the Arc Angels Chorus who perform throughout the community and are in heavy demand for performances.
