This page was originally set up in memory of my father, Henry F. Bowers (1937-2009).   A humble and hard working man, he forged on despite health problems caused by Von Hippel-Lindau Disease (VHL), an inheritable condition which causes neurological, eye, and kidney, and pancreatic tumors. 

The VHL Family Alliance has been a fundamental part of the education and journey to treatment for VHL in our family .  Thanks to VHL Family Alliance, other VHL patients have the knowledge to seek proper care and treatment which should allow them to live fuller, longer and more productive lives.  We hope to give back, and enable further research with donations in my fathers' memory.

 VHL has now affected three generations of our family.  First my father with numerous conditons and complications as a result.  Then for myself with my first surgery in 2008 for a spinal hemangioblastoma.  And now, we sadly add my son Tyler Henry Light to this list as he faces with courage, his own first battle with VHL.  He is scheduled for surgery in February 2010 for a spinal hemangioblastoma in Boston.  It is my hope that many can honor the memory of my father Henry Bowers, and also encourage his grandson, Tyler in his recovery by donating toward research in treatment and the eventual cure of VHL.  I've seen remarkable progress in the 24 years since my father was first diagnosed.  Please join me in being a part of even more incredible progress in the years to come!
