As some of you know when I was a young girl I was raped and my childhood and part of my early adult life was taken away from me. I did not know how to handle what had happened to me and internalized my feelings and didn't let anyone know until 11 years later. It has taken many years and a lot of pain and suffering for my family and I to recognize and cope with what happened to not only me but us as a family unit.
This year marks 20 years since the abuse occured and the journey began, but it also marks the first year I can actually call myself a survivor that doesn't have to focus on the past every day of my life. In rehab there was a trauma group for other people in recovery that had gone through similar experiences like me. The man who ran the group said that he wanted to take us all from being victims to being survivors to being thrivers. It took 20 years, but I am a thriver!
BARCC is a great cause that does wonderful work. I wish I had something like this when I was younger. Any donations would be wonderful and greatly appreciated. If you are free on April 22nd and want to take a nice walk along the Charles I would love to have you walk with me!
Thank you for all your love and support for everything in my life
Love Always,
Marie
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center! BARCC is the only provider of comprehensive rape crisis services in the greater Boston area. They provide free services to survivors, family members and the community. That is only possible through donations from people like you.
Here's how your donations can help:
$25 helps BARCC answer two hotline calls.
$75 pays for medical accompaniment to a hospital emergency room by a trained volunteer.
$200 supports the first three sessions of free counseling for survivors and their families.
$1,000 allows a new volunteer or intern to attend BARCC’s comprehensive training program.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Thank you so very much for your support-- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to get involved!
