Maritsa Pedersen's Fundraising Page
Dear Family and Friends,
I am happy to report that I completed the marathon.
As I stood in the corrale at the start, I felt grateful to just be there, considering the myriad of injuries I've had during my training. I ran the entire course with my friend Beth, with whom I had trained during the summer. Between both of our families, we had support from loved ones at eight different times along the course. That was AWESOME!
It was a chilly morning as we ran, with starting temperature approximately 36 F. At mile 21, I saw a bank sign showing the temperature at 42 F. The sun finally peaked out at mile 20. I wore gloves with hand warmers the entire race.
The run started smoothly, but at mile 16, my legs became my limiting factor. Our pace was slow, so cardiac-wise I was fine. After mile 16, I had leg pain for most of the remaining 10 miles. I was inspired by other runners: older individuals, a woman running with a prosthetic leg. I also remembered the children whom we sponsor through World Vision (their pictures were pinned on my back). I remembered the goals of Team World Vision, and the generous donations from all of you. The crowd cheered us on, calling out our names (which we had taped on the front of our jerseys). There was music, and lots of energy. The support for this marathon was awesome.
As we neared the finish, Beth and I were surprised to once again see our families. What an added boost! I became a bit emotional, realizing I was close to finishing. What a relief it was!
What joy it is to know that my efforts, and your generous contributions will change lives of others. I am extremely grateful to all of you for supporting and encouraging me in so many ways!
With Love,
Maritsa
