My Friends!
I've been invited to join 11 other women from around the country on a charity ride to raise money for The Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (www.thegcf.org) and the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation (www.drsusanloveresearchfoundation.org). Our goal is to eradicate both breast and ovarian cancer. We will be meeting in Rapid City, South Dakota and ride 1500 miles of mostly dirt and gravel roads towards Keystone Colorado.
Buell, BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Kymco (with a quad) and Yamaha are sponsoring us, donating the DualSport bikes for us to use during this ride. The 12 of us, now known as the Dirty Dozen Riders, will be paying our own expenses, getting ourselves to South Dakota and home from Colorado. Each of us has pledged to raise a minimum of $2000 for this major donation. That's a minimum donation of $24,000!!!
We need you to help us achieve this goal. I know times are hard, but please do what you can. Every little bit adds up to a major donation and to a cure.
In honor of my mother who succumbed to breast cancer in 1980; in honor of my aunt who battled breast cancer; and now most of all in honor of my only 2 female cousins on my mother's side, BOTH of whom are presently in their battles against breast cancer-- I ride. My mother was diagnosed at 57, my cousins diagnosed at 56 and 57. At my present age of 51 I Ride Towards The Cure and hope to beat the odds.
As the President of the Southern California Chapter of Sisters Of Scota Women's Motorcycle Club (SistersofScotaWMC.org), I am proud that the Sisters spend so much time and effort raising money for breast cancer research and even embroider on much of our club patches the phrase, "Seeking a Cure."
Being a RiderCoach with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF-USA.org), I feel so privileged to be able to combine my love of riding with my desire to end these diseases.
When Gin & Sue from the Women's Motorcyclist Foundation (womensmotorcyclistfoundation.org/cure/) first approached me to join this ride I thought, "Dirtbike ride? I'm a city girl! I like the concrete and tar under my shoes AND wheels!" But I'm stepping out of my comfort zone. These are not comfortable diseases.
Please join me in this fight. Every dollar helps!
