Your support of New York Writers Coalition and their free writing programs throughout the city has allowed me to spread cookies and chips on a table in Brooklyn every Monday night for 3 and a half years now, so that young Latino writers have a safe and receptive corner to create.

A place where words matter. After running between jobs, shuffling kids off to school, writing reports, crunching the household bills, fighting with the trains... At "Los Lunes" each Monday we meet in a safe corner and let the words fall as they will. We hear each other. And we cry. We laugh. We get inspired.

And thanks to you for helping us preserve these receptive corners for creativity, many young people have gained the confidence to continue writing, to publish their work, and to read in important venues throughout the city.

It really is a little bit of magic. I hope there continue to be enough people who believe in the importance of words and the time and space to collect them on paper -- so that groups like mine each Monday can continue to ask and answer their own huge, beautiful questions with each stroke of their pen.
